William F. Carpenter III has served as CEO of the Company since his appointment on
June 26, 2006. Prior to June 26, 2006,
Mr. Carpenter served as Executive Vice President of the Company from February 2004 until his appointment as CEO.

In addition, Mr. Carpenter served as General Counsel and Secretary of the Company since May 11, 1999 and Corporate Governance Officer since February 2003. From May 11, 1999 to February 2004, Mr. Carpenter served as Senior Vice President of the Company. From November 23, 1998 until May 11, 1999, Mr. Carpenter served as general counsel of the America Group of HCA. Mr. Carpenter
was a member of the law firm of Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis, LLP through December 31, 1998.  Currently, Mr. Carpenter serves as chair of the Federation of American Hospitals, the national representative of investor-owned or managed hospitals and health systems.
