Brentwood, Tenn. – LifePoint Hospitals® (NASDAQ: LPNT), a leading hospital company focused on providing quality healthcare services close to home, today announced that more than one in four of its hospitals – 15 of the company’s 58 facilities – were recognized as Top Performers in Key Quality Measures™ by The Joint Commission (TJC) for 2013.  Eleven LifePoint hospitals were on the Top Performers list for 2012.

Hospitals recognized in 2013 include:

Five LifePoint hospitals – Bolivar Medical Center, Logan Memorial Hospital, Minden Medical Center, Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital and Russellville Hospital – have been recognized as Top Performers for three years in a row, a distinction that only 182 hospitals nationwide have received.

“LifePoint Hospitals was founded with a mission of making communities healthier,” said William F. Carpenter III, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of LifePoint Hospitals. “We are proud of our 15 facilities included in this Top Performer list. Their achievement is the embodiment of our mission, underscoring our companywide commitment to quality care and reflecting our efforts to continuously improve the care we provide.”

The Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® program recognized 1,099 accredited hospitals that exhibit excellence in using evidence-based care processes that link to positive patient outcomes; only one-third of all TJC-accredited hospitals that report accountability measure data receive the award. The distinction is based on 2012 data reported on evidence-based care processes for conditions including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children’s asthma, inpatient psychiatric services, stroke, venous thromboembolism, and immunization.

To be recognized as a Top Performer, hospitals had to achieve cumulative performance of 95 percent or above for every accountability measure reported to TJC, meet a 95 percent performance threshold on every reported accountability measure where there are at least 30 denominator cases; and have at least one core measure set that has a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures have a performance rate of 95 percent or above.
